Storm Chasing (Intern Edition)

I love going to the beach while listening to music and hanging out with family and friends. Wake up in the morning, pack a cooler, grab a football, set up the beach chairs, and struggle to get the umbrella up. Life is… great? One does not have many worries, responsibilities, or obligations. What a great getaway.

However, after one, two, or three days of going to the beach, it is time to move on, right? The problem is that some people get stuck there. I was stuck there after graduation for a few months. This was deceiving because I had no worries on my mind - but also no motivation and no direction.

Beach Time

Truth is, I was unfulfilled on the beach. I was bored and dissatisfied.  This resulted in frustration and ultimately unhappiness. It took my dad pushing me to get me off the beach and get my life moving again out there and into a rainstorm. No more sunny lazy days. That rainstorm was the Agile Rainmakers Internship. The internship got me up every day, restored my motivation, pushed me to keep growing, and laid the foundation for new life to sprout within me.

At the start of my internship at Agile Rainmakers I came in nervous and unprepared, to put it bluntly. I had been on the beach for so long it had left me ill-equipped for a rainstorm. However, through the training and guidance from my manager it made the storm a little calmer to manage. Soon, before I realized it, it didn’t feel like a storm at all. I adapted. I grew. Taking on the storm became a fun challenge that left me with new abilities and confidence to face what’s next in my career.

Storms, Flashfloods and Rainstorms

Throughout my time at Agile Rainmakers my manager and I often interview prepped. As I am a post-grad who got his start date pushed back, I was looking for new storms (jobs) to chase. These interviews were like flash floods. And, every time I overcame a flash flood it gave me confidence to overcome the next one. Soon, after finding success in several interviews, it led me to a new challenge in my life.

My time weathering the Agile Rainmakers storm has come to an end. This storm has equipped me with the knowledge and skills to take on stronger storms that I will most certainly face in my future.

Sometimes you may find yourself on the sidelines or relaxing on the beach. Heck, for a quick vacation, that is not a bad idea. When you find yourself there for too long you may need a push forward. That push from my dad into the storm called the Agile Rainmakers Internship made all the difference for me. Maybe for you it will be a different push and a different opportunity. But what I do know now is that to breed new life on earth it requires the occasional rainstorm. What Agile has left me with is newfound life and motivation to keep growing that little sprout that came out of this storm. So, go chase your storm.

Here's to you and your awesome future.

Until then, keep your feet on the board and keep riding your wave!
